What is a DNS Resolver?

The Domain Name System (DNS) is the internet's phonebook. It translates human-friendly domain names (like www.google.com) into computer-friendly IP addresses (like 172.217.14.228). A DNS resolver is the server that handles this translation process for you.

When you type a website address into your browser, your device sends a query to a DNS resolver. The resolver finds the correct IP address and sends it back, allowing your browser to connect to the website's server. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) usually assigns you a default resolver, but you can choose to use a public one instead.

This diagram would illustrate the journey of a DNS query from a user's browser, to the resolver, and through the DNS hierarchy to find the correct IP address.

Why Use Our Public DNS Resolvers?

Increased Speed

Public DNS servers often have larger caches and are strategically located, which can lead to faster query responses and a snappier browsing experience.

Enhanced Security

We support DNS-over-TLS (DoT) on port 853. This encrypts your DNS queries, preventing others on the network from snooping on the websites you visit.

Better Reliability

ISPs' DNS servers can sometimes be unreliable or slow. Our dedicated public DNS resolvers are built for high performance and uptime.

Potential for More Privacy

Using a third-party DNS can prevent your ISP from tracking your browsing history through their DNS logs. Always review a provider's privacy policy.
